How to Buy a Porsche

In this blog and live streams, I have shared my thoughts on how to become a Porsche owner several times before, but today I want to revisit this topic and share what I’ve been thinking recently.

Introduction: The Road to Buying a Porsche

Owning a Porsche is a dream for many car enthusiasts.

However, the path to that dream is far from easy. Even the relatively accessible new models like the Boxster, Cayman, or Macan often exceed 10 million yen once options are included. So, how can you turn this dream into reality?

Having been captivated by Porsche for many years and actually becoming an owner myself, I believe there are three essential elements needed to acquire a Porsche. Of course, there are many factors beyond these three, but I’ve chosen the ones I consider most important.

These aren’t just financial tips—they’re more about mindset and lifestyle. Today, I’ll explain these three secrets in detail.

1. Don’t Envy: The First Step to Success

The first secret to owning a Porsche is not to envy others. At first glance, this might seem unrelated to buying a car. But this mindset is crucial on the road to success.

Everyone feels some envy at times. However, those who can genuinely say “good for them” when they see Porsche owners or successful people, versus those who harbor envy, will experience very different life paths.

People who see others who are more successful, living in luxury homes or driving high-end cars, and instead of envying them, think positively, “I want to be like that too,” are potential future successes. This is a common trait among Porsche owners.

Envy is essentially an act of distancing yourself from the group of successful people. As the saying goes, “birds of a feather flock together.” Having successful people around you suggests you are part of that potential group. Missing that opportunity due to envy is a huge loss.

Therefore, when you witness someone else’s success, it’s important not to envy but to think, “Good for them!” and wish to become like them. This is the first step toward success.

2. Focus on Increasing Income Rather Than Saving

The second secret to owning a Porsche is to focus on increasing your income rather than just saving money. Many people think of saving first when they want something expensive. But I believe this is a detour rather than a shortcut.

Relying on saving often reflects a psychological resignation of “I can’t earn more than this.” If you believe you can increase your income, you would focus on ways to do that rather than just cutting expenses. Of course, saving is important, but it should come second. Your primary effort should be on increasing your income.

Many salaried workers may have given up, thinking, “No matter how hard I try, my salary won’t increase.” It’s true that staying in the same job won’t usually lead to a significant income boost. But this is where you need to change your mindset.

Instead of just working overtime, focus on delivering outstanding results. And importantly, make sure your boss and management recognize those results. Don’t just sell your time; approach your work as if you’re selling your achievements to the company.

If you still aren’t valued, consider changing jobs, side hustles, or even starting your own business.
There are plenty of companies out there. Finding an environment that fairly values your worth is a crucial step toward increasing your income.

In short, to own a Porsche, it’s essential not just to save but to actively seek and act on ways to increase your income.

3. Truly Desire It from the Bottom of Your Heart

The third secret may seem simple but is extremely important: truly desire a Porsche from the bottom of your heart.

Many people say, “I want a Porsche.” But the strength of that desire is completely different between those who actually get one and those who don’t. It’s not just a casual “it would be nice” feeling—you need a deep, burning desire that naturally wells up inside you.

When I couldn’t afford a Porsche yet, I borrowed a Porsche key on our honeymoon in Germany. I kept looking at this photo after returning home.

Those who truly want a Porsche won’t give up no matter what obstacles arise—family opposition, parking issues, financial constraints… They spare no effort to overcome these challenges. Sometimes, people give up over minor issues like “my wife opposes it” or “it won’t fit in the parking space.”
From my perspective, if you give up over such small things, you simply don’t truly want it.

This level of desire isn’t just about “wanting it strongly.” It’s a natural emotion that compels you to take action.

If you don’t feel that strong desire, maybe you don’t really want a Porsche after all. In that case, there’s no need to force it. Finding what you truly want is also an important life lesson.

Conclusion: The Path to Becoming a Porsche Owner

The three secrets to owning a Porsche—“Don’t envy,” “Focus on increasing income,” and “Truly desire it from your heart”—are not just car-buying tips but important guidelines that lead to success in life.

By practicing these secrets, you won’t just get a Porsche—you’ll live a more fulfilling life. These traits, common among Porsche owners around me, are the source of their success.

Finally, I want to emphasize that these secrets aren’t something you master overnight.
It’s important to be mindful of them daily and gradually put them into practice. By doing so, the day will come when you find yourself behind the wheel of your very own Porsche—and that dream will become reality.
