Porsche denies using "pseudo" gear shifters in EVs.

Porsche development driver Lars Kern said the company isConsidered introducing a simulated gear shift for EVs, but quickly dismissed the ideaThey revealed that they have done so. Porsche believes that these concepts detract from the authentic EV experience.

For car enthusiasts around the world, few things can compare to the sensation and thrill of switching gears in the manual gearbox of an internal combustion engine vehicle.
But while the widespread use of automatic transmissions has made the former mechanical necessity now a luxury for enthusiasts, electric vehicles (EVs) have gone one step further, eliminating the need for a gearbox altogether thanks to the instantaneous power transmission of electric motors.

Hyundai adopts gear shifter for EVs

In this context, Hyundai's recently launched Ionic 5 N sports hatchback is equipped with a pseudo-gear shifter called N Powershift, considering the sensation of switching gears an important element of driving pleasure.

This "pseudo" shifter essentially controls the amount of power and torque, giving the driver the feeling that mechanical gears are present. In practice, however, the Ionic 5 N will actually slow down slightly when using this pseudo-shifter.

Porsche development driver's view

In an interview with Drive Magazine, Porsche development driver Lars Kern said that Porsche also considered the idea of a pseudo-shifter in its electric cars, but ultimately abandoned the idea and decided it was "counter-intuitive."

And Mr. Cologne said that he had the following to say.

We looked into it... but we don't understand what you mean by making it feel like an internal combustion engine," he said.Because it is not an internal combustion engine. So we won't." Cologne continued, "We have test-driven and considered the Hyundai N."
Obviously, some people think it's a good idea, others think it's a bad idea."

Porsche's Attitude Toward EVs

Porsche seems to believe that the instantaneous torque and linear output characteristics of electric vehicles are to be celebrated in their own right and should not be modified to mimic the characteristics of internal combustion engine vehicles.
Cologne went a step further and said that he believes that putting a simulated gear shifter on an EV would detract from the authentic electric vehicle experience, according to the report.

This is a compelling enough argument, given that EVs have their own advantages and offer a driving experience that many people love and probably prefer to the experience of shifting gears violently in internal combustion engine vehicles.

This attitude of Porsche,Signs of a strategy that emphasizes the intrinsic appeal of electric vehicles and differentiates them from conventional internal combustion engine vehiclesBy focusing on creating new driving experiences that take advantage of the characteristics of EVs, Porsche may be trying to maintain its uniqueness and competitiveness in the age of electrification.

It will be interesting to see how other automakers will approach the industry as a whole in EVs. What is Porsche's decision?Pursuit of the essential attractiveness of EVsI think it is likely to gain support from many Porsche drivers and car enthusiasts as a demonstration of the

As one of the users of Porsche EVs, I can say that EVs are just like EVs, and their overwhelming and seamless acceleration is the best. Besides, you don't have to experience "pseudo" shifting in an EV,Porsche engine cars have the world's most electrifying "PDK"The reason is because of the
