Porsche Taikan Turbo S on the track. How is it different from the 911 and Panamera?

Porsche Taikan Turbo S
Reviews & Test Rides

My husband recently had the opportunity to drive on the circuit in Taikan and wrote me about his impressions. Please take a look if you would like to read it.

Taikan, test drive

Porsche Taikan, I had already seen the actual car many times before at previews and exhibitions, but this time was different. You can actually ride on the Taikan, which is not yet available in Japan. Moreover, it was a test drive on a circuit.

Sodegaura Forest Raceway under clear skies. There was aTaikan Turbo S and Taikan TurboThe car had an aura of awesomeness. The somewhat awesome aura, combined with the futuristic design, gave the car a "new" atmosphere that was a little different from the cars of the past.

This time, we will test driveThe most powerful model of the Taikan, the Turbo S.It is. After being briefed on the console and switches, we climbed into the cockpit. The interior is more like a "cockpit" than a driver's seat. The instrument panel is all LCD. The area of the instrument panel is not that large, and the vertical direction is very compact.

It has more of a special sports car feel than a sedan.

The power is already on, but the description saysTaikan is already ready to run by simply unlocking the door, getting in, and stepping on the brake. The company says. They aimed to make the car operable with the ease of a smartphone, and indeed, this is very natural and stress-free.

Put the small shift lever on the right side of the steering wheel into drive and step on the gas pedal. I would describe it as a slippery sensation. The tires begin to roll with the smoothness that only an electric motor can provide. This feeling is very similar to the feeling of driving on the electric motor of the Cayenne E-Hybrid.

Gradually opening the throttle, the car approached the first corner. The driving mode was first lapped in normal mode, and the 992 911 leading the way was also at a moderate speed. Since the circuit is well paved, it is difficult to judge the ride quality, butVery grounded and flat ride.It is.

Alex from Porsche Japan says that the three-chamber air suspension is designed to take into account the weight of the Taikan, and that it is also designed to be able to withstand the weight of the Taikan.I think it rides better than the current Panamera. He said.

I tried to accelerate slowly on the gentle corner from turn 2 to 3, but the car was not rolling at all.It is so natural that one would not recognize it as an electric car, and there are no abrupt power fluctuations or harshness in the accelerator pedal.

It is not much different from driving a normal powerful gasoline engine car. I think most people can ride in this car without feeling any discomfort.

Operate the LCD panel on the center console to turn on Porsche Electric Sport Sound. Then theIt is difficult to describe the sound of the motor, but it is clearly audible inside the car.The sound increases in proportion to the accelerator pedal, which is very pleasing. It is an option similar to a sports exhaust in an engine-powered car, and when I actually heard it in the car, it was a fresh, futuristic sound that is very typical of an electric car. I would definitely add this option.

Turn 4 is a tight right turn. With a heavy tycoon weighing approximately 2.5 tons, one would expect to feel some swaying and rolling. As soon as they entered the corner, they were surprised by its behavior. The car was in a state of shock.Really 2.5 tons?I was very impressed with the way the car handles. The body language is as if you were driving a 1.5 to 1.6 ton car.

The upper part of the body is not carried away at all, and the center of gravity feels low. The car runs through tight corners as if it were riding in a very low and floppy car.

The 911 in front of me picks up the pace a bit, so I step on the gas. Without a pause, the power picks up and I am able to keep up with the 911. After all, in a situation like thisIt strongly feels like an electric car, and the time from when the driver steps on the accelerator pedal to when the power picks up is by far the shortest.

Of course, the response of a 911, for example, is quite good, but the motor is not on that level. It may be a matter of tenths of a second, or even milliseconds, but the human senses are able to recognize the difference.

Experience the acceleration of Taikan

After a quick turn around the track, the car is put into sport mode. Then, after receiving radio instructions to step on the home straight and watch, he finally unleashes the Taikan Turbo S. He presses down on the gas pedal as hard as he can, all the way to the floor. Naturally, the Taikan accelerates furiously. His head is brought back and the speedometer display goes up and up and up.

The acceleration so far is not that much different from the GT3 or Panamera Turbo. "That's very fast indeed!I was feeling "I've never experienced this before," and then I had an experience that was a little out of the ordinary. The head is being taken backward by the accelerating G's, and it won't stop.

Usually, acceleration Gs subside as the speed increases. In other words, the head, which had been brought to the rear, gradually returns to its normal position. However, this was not the case with Taikan. The acceleration Gs did not subside. The head would not return to its normal position. The head would not return to its normal position. What, are we still accelerating like this from here?I think that's the impression I have.

The acceleration is very fast. It is as if the speed is riding in an endlessly extending manner, and it successfully betrays the body's expectation that the acceleration G will gradually subside at around 80 km/h. The "G" is the same as in the "A".Still want to go from here? The acceleration of the Taikan is so fast that you would think it was a "Taikan". When a good baseball player throws a ball to you, you feel that the ball extends from the middle of the field.

The maximum speed is not comparable to gasoline engine cars, so if we are talking about acceleration at speeds exceeding 200 km/h, this is a different impression, but I believe that the power of this Taikan can be fully felt in everyday experiences such as merging into high speeds and overtaking acceleration.
