Porsche Owners File #17] Cayman GT4 Purchase, Options and Driving Review
Published on: 07.14.2019
Hello everyone. This is Mina, the administrator of "A Porsche Came to My Home". I would like to share the real voices of various Porsche owners with you! This project was born from the request of our readers, "I want to share the real voices of various Porsche owners!Porsche Owner's FileThe "Cayman GT4". Part 17 is a review of the purchase, options, and driving of the Cayman GT4 from "Akki".
〘Owner Information〙
My favorite car: Cayman GT4
Pen name: Akki
Area of Residence: Hyogo Prefecture
Family: Wife, two sons in college and high school.
Past car history:...
1) First generation Primera (AT) → Altezza (MT) → Prius (AT)
(2) Beat (MT) → Cappuccino (MT) → Beat (MT)
Abarth 500C (MT)
4) Cayman GT4 (MT)
I am interested in all kinds of cars, not only Porsches, but also light cars, hybrids, old cars, new cars, regardless of nationality. We currently own 4 cars, all of which are very dear to us and we cannot let them go!It is.
I'm a sucker for basic manuals. My family has a lot of manual cars.It is. When we first got married, our family had only one Primera, which belonged to my wife, but I wanted to drive a manual car, so I switched to a manual Altezza without consulting my wife (sweat).
Initially, my wife told me, "Why a manual? But he got used to it right away and was in a good mood (or was he forced to be?). But now my wife has gotten used to driving a Prius AT. However, my wife is now so accustomed to the automatic transmission of the Prius that she won't even drive a manual car when switching back and forth in the parking lot... (tears)
A word to our readers
The Cayman is the entry-level model in the hierarchy of Porsche sports cars, with the 911 at the top.Running, turning, and stopping are all properly done by Porsche. It is.
andCompared to the 911, the GT4 is more cost-effective.I feel that it is a good choice. The satisfaction level is very high, and the fact that it has 911 GT3 components, plus a manual, makes it very attractive except for the price. I am very satisfied with the car."Don't we need to go to 911?It seems like a "good idea.
(1) Background leading to purchase
Inspired by his nephew's purchase of a Porsche
I am of the so-called "supercar" generation, so since elementary school, I have been a "supercar guy" since I was in elementary school.I'll definitely drive a Porsche in the future.I thought, "I'm not going to be able to do that.
However, even though it was the car of my dreams, I was reluctant to buy a Porsche for a long time because of the high threshold of the brand when it came to actually buying one. Then one day, my nephew bought a used 987 Boxster as his first car.(Later 981 to 993)
Seeing the way it was going. My brother bought a used 997, which inspired me to take the plunge.I was very impressed with the quality of the product. Later, when I accompanied him to inspect the 997I fell in love at first sight with a GT4 that happened to be on display.
I also like convertibles, so I was torn between the Boxster Spyder and the GT4, but the rear wings of the GT4 won me over.
When I think of Porsche sports cars, I think of the 911, and while I admire the 911's packaging and visibility, the spartan and cost-effective GT4 was a perfect fit for me.
(2) Options / Specifications
Being a used car, I didn't have much choice.
left hand drive (of cars, etc.)
In Japan, right-hand drive is more natural. However, even with right-hand drive, compared to the Abarth 500Less uncomfortable pedal layoutYes.
body color
The body color is black. Solid black shows wash marks and fingerprints, so I wouldn't order it if it were a new car.If it can be kept clean, even the reflection is beautiful and cool!I think. If I were to buy a new car, I think it would be white.
interior
Black leather interior(with alcantara parts), andContrast Color Stitch, ,colored seatbelt(As for the three options (Gerd's Red), you don't have to have any...
Nevertheless.Gorgeous Cayman with simple interior, overpriced and satisfying.is obtained.
However, the standard Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob are supposed to be gloved?Genuine leather is definitely better to the touch with bare hands.I thought, "I'm not going to be able to do that.(When I first held the genuine leather steering wheel of the 981, I was impressed by the way it felt in my bare hands.)
Sport Chrono Package
For a moment I wondered if it was necessary because the dashboard would look dreary without the clock, but GT4 is no different in terms of functionality, so I guess it's okay if it's not there.
Full bucket seat
The seat is built quite large, so my height(170 cm standard build)It does not fit slightly with theSeats are electrically adjustable up, but not recline adjustable. And it is difficult to get in and out of the car. So I think it will swing sideways on the circuit.
Also, the legs are short, or the front/rear adjustment is just right at the very front. However, it looks great, and I dare not put up the smoke film, and it is great to look at the interior of the car from the rear.
smoking package
I don't smoke, but it comes with a cigar socket and lid for free, which is handy for something.
Other
The air conditioner is automatic, but it can be manual since it is adjusted after all.
I think it is good that it is included because it is a free option.
The black wing looks good because the body color is black. The rest is probably floor mats and a back-up camera.
(3) Process of vehicle delivery
This GT4 was sold at the opening of a new store of a certain long-established Porsche certified pre-owned car center in Kansai.Several GT4s were on display at the time, but all cars were sold by lotteryThe company had been
I had hoped for "white body color, right-hand drive, standard seats," but was told that there were too many people who wanted it and that it was unlikely to be available, so I decided to go with the less desirable "Black body color, left hand drive, full bucket seats. The purchase was made after reserving a "I'm sorry, I'm sorry".

I'm a big fan of this blog. I'm Akki's nephew.
Thank you for making this an absurdly great article!
This is a wonderful article in Mina's hands. The whole family is already very impressed!!!! We are all very impressed. Sorry it took so long. Akki will try to get me to buy the next 718 Spyder.
Akki's brother bought a white 997 and bragged about it to his friends, and then there were two other white 997 riders around Akki, making a trio of white 997s with the exact same look.
I'll also send you a picture of the white 997 Carrera trio all together! LOL!
Akki's nephew!
Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to work with you.
Thank you, Uncle, for a very busy and informative manuscript!

The infectivity of the Porsche bacteria, it's tremendous (laughs).
I would like to drive a 997 once. Many people say it is very good.
We are looking forward to seeing your photos (smile).
Thank you for your continued support!

The 981 GT4 is one of the cars I would like to drive at least once, so I was very interested to see it.
Among them.
> The Cayman GT4 offers more than enough breathtaking acceleration, and the GT4's relatively large displacement at 3.8 liters means that the
> Torque is very strong even at low speeds, and it can go into 6th gear even at 30 km/h. It is not peaky, so it is possible to drive in 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear in town. Also, since it is not peaky, it is possible to drive in 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears in town.
I was surprised to see that the GT4 has a lower gear ratio than the Cayman S.
I have checked that the 718 is the same as the 981 Cayman S for both Cayman and Cayman S.
In the 718 Cayman, 6th gear will bring the engine below idle rpm at about 36 km/h, so the engine seems to suffer there even during deceleration.
Flying shifts may be a privilege of MT.
In my case, on my 718 Cayman, I used to do 1st gear full acceleration -> 2nd gear -> 6th gear. But
> "PDK is fine, but manuals should not exceed 7000 rpm," I was warned.
> Consciously relax the force applied to the right leg.
> Apparently, if you hit a rev limit, it will stay in your history at 5 levels and you won't get dealer warranty.
This was the first time I had heard of this. The tachometer is in the red zone from 7400 rpm, but I don't think I have ever hit the limit on the 718 Cayman, even when I shift up to the very limit during acceleration. I was not told anything about it when I had it serviced. I am sure there is some leeway before hitting the limiter. Of course, it would be very difficult to hit the limiter on a downshift. But I don't think it is necessary to look at 400 rpm margin, though.
PorscheDreamer.
I have never experienced a Cayman MT, but I wonder if the GT4 and Cayman are still totally different!
The more you know about Porsche, the deeper the car is...
