Which is the best value for a Porsche 911, MT or AT? An analysis based on data.

How to buy a Porsche

MT or AT is more economical?

If I'm going to buy a 911 with resale in mind, which is a better deal, MT or AT?"So my husband looked into that area the other day. It's just thatIt is time-consuming and tedious to manually look up each piece of information one by one."So they have programmed it so that it can pull used 911 car sales information from CarSensor and automatically convert it into data.(My husband is an IT guy, so he can do that kind of program in an hour or two.)

(Indeed, it would be tedious and tedious to search and look up each item one by one from a screen like this.)

Therefore.Graphs of sales prices of water-cooled and later 911 models (996, 997, 991) by AT and MT models(as of 9/14/2018)"are as follows. Note that "AT cars = blue" and "MT cars = red".

There are three types of data entries on this sheet: tables, pie charts, and bar graphs, each with a

Table・・・・Average sales price of AT and MT models of 996, 997 early model, 997 late model, and 991 model, respectively
Pie chart: Percentage of the number of AT and MT vehicles sold.
・棒グラフ・・・年式の価格の推移をあらわしたもの

The company has become a To my husband.Look, you can read a lot of things from this data!"I was given this sheet, but after looking at the data for about 30 minutes, I could not find anything.MT cars cost more than AT cars."I have always been really bad at data analysis.

What can we read from the data?

I looked at it until I had a hole in my eye, but I couldn't figure it out (-_-).""Why, why, why... why don't you get it?"My husband made the point, to my dismay.

(1) A small percentage of all MT vehicles

The percentage of 911s listed on CarSensor that are MT vehicles is996 = 19.61 TP2T, early 997 = 21.51 TP2T, late 997 = 41 TP2T, 991 = 7.31 TP2T."And there were fewer than I had expected. The fact that there were so few means that MT cars are that rare.

(2) The ratio of MT vehicles became even smaller with the introduction of PDK.

Especially from the late 997 onward, after the AT transmission was replaced by PDK, the percentage of MT vehicles became even smaller. Porsche used to use a torque converter type automatic transmission, but it was pointed out that the structure itself was different from that of a manual transmission and that there was transmission loss during shift changes. After PDK, a full-fledged dual clutch transmission is used for smooth shifting from low to high speedsThe number of people who buy a MT car has decreased more. It is thought that the number of people who buy MT cars has decreased more because "anyone can enjoy driving a Porsche without daring to buy a MT car.

(iii) MT models have higher selling prices in almost all models.

Regarding the selling price, if we look at the late 997, early 997, and 996AT cars cost 70 to 80% of the price of MT cars. The price of the MT model is about 1 to 2 million yen higher.

(4) 991 is more expensive for AT vehicles now, but MT vehicles are likely to become more expensive in the future.

As for the 991, the selling price of the AT model is currently higher than that of the MT model, butAmong the 991 lineup, only standard models such as the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, and Carrera 4S offer a choice of manual transmission models. As for the high-end lineup of 911s such as Targa and Cabriolet, MT models are not available in Japan.(I wrote about that in a previous article ↓↓↓)

→[Reference article] A summary of Porsche manual transmission (MT) cars available as new cars in Japan.

meanwhileThe selling price of the MT model is 11,310,000 yen, and the AT model is 13,020,000 yen.and given that the gap between the two is only about 1.7 million yen, the value of the MT model remains high, and it is likely that the sales price of the MT model will be higher in the future, just like other models.

MT cars, let's take good care of them!

So, what we can say from these data is that

(1) If you are currently driving a 911 MT car, take good care of it!
(2) If anyone is wondering whether to buy a 911 with AT or MT, MT cars have a higher resale!

I guess that's what it means.

To add a little more regarding (1), since the number of MT cars is certain to decrease in the future, the price of MT cars is expected to rise due to supply and demand. AlsoThe last air-cooled Porsche 993 with manual transmission.and my husband has.The last NA-engined Boxster GTS with manual transmission. As for the "Mere Old Man," the car sensor still shows a high price, so if you take good care of it, it will surely increase in value.

(2) If you are not particular about whether you want an AT or MT car, and are considering which one to choose, it would be better to choose an MT car because its value is unlikely to decrease. However, since there are only a limited number of 911s available for MT vehicles and the production quota is small, it may take some time before the vehicle is delivered.

Please make a request!

So this time, I am analyzing the data from the angle of "comparison of sales price of 911 AT and MT cars," my husband says.I can pull any data from anything listed on CarSensor."Yes. For example.

I always look forward to your blog updates.

When I gave up my 718 Boxster MT in the past, I was surprised to be told that the purchase price was higher for the PDK than for the MT. I thought that the MT would be valued higher in terms of rarity, but it was explained to me that this was only because the option price was set higher for PDK than MT when purchasing a new car. Maybe this is because the 718MT is still available for purchase as a new car, and MTs before 981 or 991.1, which are already unavailable for purchase, may be valued differently, but it seems that MTs do not necessarily have a better resale depending on the model of the car. I will still choose MT in the future, though.

Thank you so much for reading our blog!

      >When I gave up my 718 Boxster MT before, I was surprised to hear that the purchase price was higher for the PDK than the MT.
I see! So with a 718, the PDK has a higher buyout price...!
Indeed, I see what you mean when you think that the cost of options would be about 500,000 yen.
It depends on when and which type of car you have.
Thank you for your valuable information!

      >I will still choose MT in the future, though.
It's nice... (laughs) Oh, I'll practice MT driving too...
