Left-hand drive? Or right-hand drive? I have considered this from the standpoint of having each AT/MT.

My Family's Car Life

AT or manual?

."When buying an imported car, do you choose a left-hand drive or a right-hand drive? It seems to me that "the theme" is quite a controversial one, and people's tastes are very different.

Many imported cars were originally calledRight-hand traffic, left-hand driveWhile it is said that the left-hand drive version is easier to operate in some ways because it is designed in a way that is suitable for the "left-hand drive", Japan is a "left-hand drive" country.Left-hand traffic, right-hand driveSome say that right-hand drive cars are easier to drive on Japanese roads because they are "right-hand drive.

In other words, I wonder if there is a difference between "focusing on the operability of the car" and "focusing on the ease of driving on Japanese roads.

With this in mind, I suddenly realized something the other day. In our house, there is a

(1) Right-hand drive, automatic transmissionPorsche Panamera (971)
(2) Right-hand drive, manual transmissionBMW320i
(3) Left-hand drive, automatic transmissionPorsche 911 (964C2)
(4) "Left-hand drive, manual transmissionPorsche 911 GT3 (991.2), Boxster GTS (981)

that all specifications are available (though only for German cars).

You're crazy!

Therefore, I decided to consider and write about what differences there are between left-hand drive and right-hand drive after actually driving.

My view as a woman

(1) Right-hand drive, AT

First, let me talk about the "right-hand drive, automatic transmission" Panamera that we have at home. Since Japan is a "left-hand drive, right-hand drive" country, I feel no discomfort with the Panamera, and it is normally easy to drive.

It used to be calledDirection indicator and other levers on the left would be difficult to do.I thought, "I'll get used to it," but I have no problem because I get used to it as soon as I get in the car. Sometimes, when I get into a Panamera after driving a domestic car as a loaner, the first one or two times I get the left and right levers wrong, but that's about the extent of it (laughs).

However, in the case of a wide car like the Panamera, it is a little difficult to get a sense of the width of the car, and you will inevitably end up driving closer to the center line. So, for large cars only, it is better to use the "I wonder if a left-hand drive might be easier to drive than I thought.Sometimes I think, "I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.

(2) Right-hand drive, MT vehicle

Currently, the car I drive most frequently is a "right-hand-drive, MT car," i.e., the BMW 320i. Before I got in it, I thought, "It's hard to operate the shift lever, direction indicators, etc. all with the left hand in a German right-hand drive MT car!but once you get used to it, there is no problem at all.

Also, since I am right-handed, I am used to operating the steering wheel with my right hand, so I feel comfortable operating the shift lever and levers with my left hand while steering with my right hand only.

(3) Left-hand drive, AT

The "left-hand drive, AT car" in our house is an air-cooled Porsche 911 (964C2).

To be honest, I'm not used to driving a left-hand drive car, so it's a little uncomfortable every time I start out, but when I have to turn left or parallel park to pick up my child from kindergarten, it's a great feeling to be able to drive a car on the left side of the road.It is very easy to do because the left side is clearly visible.

However, when coming off the freeway IC and merging onto the main street, it is not possible to see the road from the highway. The right oblique back is very difficult to see.If the car is a right-hand drive car, I can check it right away, but if it is a left-hand drive car, I sometimes feel a little scared when merging because there is a blind spot diagonally behind me.

Left-hand drive MT vehicle

The "left-hand drive, MT cars" that are currently in my house are a 911 GT3 Touring and a Boxster GTS. Left-hand drive MT cars are not so difficult to drive! I am still not accustomed to driving a left-hand drive MT car.Operate the steering wheel with the left handThis is the point that "the

The other day. When I tried to put the shift lever into 5th gear, the steering wheel turned slightly to the right as well.Perhaps this is because I am so clumsy as to be clumsy... (-_-)

When driving a left-hand steering manual transmission vehicle, I feel that I should be able to drive with my left hand only, as if it were my dominant hand, without any discomfort.

Next, I asked her to write about her husband's views.

    Same.
I've had my Cayman GT4 on hold for quite some time now.
I cancelled it when I heard that I could only select right-hand drive.
I was looking forward to it, but I was disappointed (T_T).

    • Mina.Mina.

      Mr. Whooper.

      So it was...!
There seem to be quite a lot of people all over Japan who have cancelled their trip due to the fact that only right-hand drive is available as a choice...
It seems that even the Speedster does not have left hand drive in Japan (TдT).

  2. TONO

    Hi Mina.
My house too. We're orange, which the neighbors would think is a crazy family (laughs).
The other day, my son agreed to run with me for the first time in a while, so we went to Ashiu early in the morning with his 991.1s and my Orange.
We also have cars all over the place, but my wife's motor skills and driving ability are catastrophic, so we have to choose the right AT.
As for the steering wheel position, etc., I agree with your husband.
I agree, especially when it comes to Porsche, including underfoot.
I'd test-driven an Abarth with a right manual transmission before, and it was jerky, or I couldn't steer it well.
I think it's great that people can drive this.
There was something that simply could not be put away by the blinker position dawn. (Laughter)
I can still buy a left manual transmission in Abarth, so I can buy my son's Golf 6 (the last twin charger, which I've modified a lot and love a lot).
I am planning to replace it with an Abarth.

    • Mina.Mina.

      Mr. TONO.
Hello. How are you doing with your Geon! LOL!
It is so wonderful that you and your son can go to Ashiu.

I, too, have very poor motor skills, and I am a bit of a klutz, bumping into things as soon as I walk.
      In fact, the right AT is the easiest to do ^^;

But as you say, after all, Porsche is designed to be easy to drive on the left side of the road, right?
My husband often talks about it at home.

Abarth, well, you can still buy left!
      The Golf 6 is a shame, but, I'm also inclined to get the Abarth left manual transmission while I can get it... ^^..;

I too would love to see you at Ashiari, and I look forward to seeing you at Orange's Geon!
