There is an epic story of how the Porsche 911 Dakar proved that it could be more than just a sports car, but an adventure companion.

Nguyen Hoang Anh, owner of a logistics company in Vietnam, with his 911 Dakar,He had completed a 33,000-kilometer round trip from Vietnam to the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.

Encounter with 911 Dakar

In September 2023, Anh's 911 Dakar left his garage in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). This special 911, the first one ever sold in Vietnam, was only six weeks old, but it was the culmination of a longtime dream of Anh's. He dreamed of driving an off-road version of the 911 through the Gobi Desert. He had dreamed of driving an off-road version of the 911 through the Gobi Desert, and had ordered the car a year in advance.

To prepare for the trip, Anh drove 2,000 kilometers on a test drive in Vietnam. However, he says that while the car is designed for off-road driving, his 54-year-old body is not. Still, he says he was excited to take on the challenge of uncharted territory.

The Road to the Desert

Ann began the journey with two friends, one in a pickup truck and the other in an SUV. They used walkie-talkies and smart phones to keep in touch with each other as they went along. The first few days of the trip took them along the coast of the South China Sea and then west across Laos. The scenery was breathtaking, they said. But this was only the beginning. Mr. Ang's destination was a place where no other 911 had ever set foot.

911 Dakar

Upon entering China, Ann had the opportunity to test the potential of the 911 Dakar in earnest.

At Chaka Salt Lake on the Tibetan Plateau, at an altitude of about 3,100 meters, they felt the blue of the sky and were fascinated by its beauty. Furthermore, in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China, they encountered the sandy and hilly terrain of the Gobi Desert.911 Dakar proved to be excellent in both climbing and sprinting performanceThe car was then driven through a grassy plain. On the way, they had the unique experience of driving through the grasslands with fireworks tied to the back of their car, as is customary in China.

Mongolia and the Extreme Cold

The journey continued further and entered Mongolia.

In the Gobi Desert, they had trouble with a large rock cutting through their tires, but escaped thanks to a spare tire. Mr. Ann and his group visited the Beken family of Kazakhstan, a traditional Mongolian falconry family, and experienced their culture. Mr. Ann described his 911 as "my falcon. As they traveled along the harsh desert road,He was convinced that the 911 Dakar could handle any terrain.

In Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, the cars were repaired at a repair shop with mechanics from Vietnam. The group then left the frozen Lake Khuvsgul and headed for China. On the snowy roads of northern China, the group enjoyed some drifting in a 911 Dakar, but the road surface was deemed dangerous due to the icy conditions. Later, when they got stuck in a traffic jam, they took the bold step of driving off-road to avoid the traffic.

This scene became a hot topic on social networking sites and was replayed more than 2 million times. In Mohe City, the northernmost city in China, they experienced extreme cold with temperatures reaching 30 degrees below zero. Later, in Xuexiang (Snow Village, China), they had the dreamlike experience of driving a 911 Dakar through the snow.

The end of a journey and a new beginning

Toward the end of the trip, Ann visited Dandong, a city on the border with North Korea, to see the wreckage of a bridge that once connected China and North Korea.

They passed through Beijing and headed for Shanhaiguan, where the Great Wall meets the sea. As they approached their hometown of Vietnam, many people took pictures of them with their smart phones and they became the talk of the town on social networking sites. Anh and his 911 Dakar became instant celebrities. Upon his return to Ho Chi Minh City, Anh,They traveled 33,000 kilometers in 75 days. This trip was the biggest adventure of his life, he said.

911 Dakar

One year after his trip, Mr. Ann visited the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, where he met Achim Lampalter, the head of development for the 911 Dakar. Mr. Lamparter listened to Ann's story of her trip and told her the secret story of the 911 Dakar's development.

This story shows that the Porsche 911 Dakar is not just a car, but can be an adventure companion that fulfills its owner's dreams. Anne's journey will have given courage and inspiration to many Porsche owners.

The record of this journey has expanded the possibilities of the Porsche car and has probably touched the hearts of Porsche drivers around the world.
