Boxster's battery is dead
At the end of last year, I hadn't been in Boxster for a while. I think I couldn't ride it for more than a month and a half.
And one day at the end of the year, when I try to get into Boxster, I press the button of the key, but it does not respond at all. The key lamp is on, so the key itself doesn't seem to be a problem.
I tried it several times, but there was no response at all.
Rainy day "battery powered]. The battery was new in June of last yearReplace with lithium-ion battery (megalife battery)There was no problem in the inspection for the next year, but suddenly the power was completely lost.
The last thing I can think of isOkayama / Tottori TouringAfter that, I only rode a little, and I installed a dashcam and radar, and the wiring was taken from the 12V cigar socket.
Even if the engine is turned off, the 12V power supply of the cigar socket is energized for about 20 minutes. If you ride a little or open and close the door a lot, it will consume electricity as it is.
Also, I hear that there is a certain amount of dark current even if it cuts in 20 minutes, so that area seems suspicious.
First, open the door with the emergency key
For the time being, read the instruction manual on the net and find out how to open the door with the emergency key.
First.Remove the emergency key from the remote control key. Then, insert the key into the keyhole that can be seen by lifting the driver's door handle upward. Then, turn it counterclockwise, pull it out, and raise the handle again to open it.
I try this, but it doesn't work very well. In the first place, the emergency key is small and difficult to turn, and since the keyhole is not usually used, it is awkward to move and difficult to turn. Even though my hand hurts, I can't turn it all the way to the left. I tried pulling it out many times, reading the manual many times, and checking if it was wrong, but it didn't work.
No matter how many times I try it, it turns to the left only halfway, and even if I turn it, the key does not come off.
I was about to give up,I inserted it a little deeper and turned it about 90 degrees to the left.
Then, the key was obediently unlocked, and when I raised the handle, the door finally opened. It takes about 10 minutes to this point.
Energize from the fuse box to open the trunk
And even if you try to open the trunk with the battery, Porsche's trunk opener of this era is electric, so if the battery is completely exhausted, the trunk will not open at all.
Originally, this Boxster is equipped with a mega life battery, so the "Emergency buttonYou can start from the backup power supply by pressing.I can't access the battery because the trunk doesn't open in the first place.
Therefore, the trunk must also be opened in an urgent manner.
First, open the fuse box cover at the foot of the left seat, take out the fuse remover inside, and pull out the "plus terminal".
Then, connect the positive terminal of the mobile battery (jump starter) for the car you brought to the pulled out terminal, and connect the negative terminal to the metal part near the hinge of the door. andWhen you turn on the mobile battery, it turns on and you can open the trunk with the switch of the trunk opener. The first is the "I" in "I".
By the way, since the trunk opener of the air-cooled Porsche such as 964 is also a wire type, there is no problem even if the battery runs out, but such an electric type opener is troublesome at such times, so I would like you to stop.
Access the battery for recovery work
I finally got access to the battery,Press the emergency button on the Mega Life Battery. Then, electricity was turned on to the car and the lights were turned on. (In the case of the original normal battery, it is necessary to connect the mobile battery here and jump start)
When you turn the key in the driver's seat, the engine finally wakes up as usual.
When idling is stable, press the emergency button on the battery again to switch to normal mode. This will start charging the battery.
In the case of a lithium-ion battery, the charging / discharging speed is very fast, so it seems that it is enough to run for 15 minutes to charge it. For the time being, I ran the Hanshin Expressway for about an hour after driving, fully charged it, and returned to the garage.
And just in case, check the health condition of the battery at a later date.
Let's check the emergency procedure in advance
This time, when I experienced the battery exhaustion, I thought that it happened in my parking lot, so I was able to calmly deal with it, but this may have been more difficult when I was out.
If you can,It is strongly recommended to check the procedure etc. in advance about how to use the emergency key and how to open the trunk.do. If you experience it even once, you will feel at ease mentally in the event of an emergency, and above all, you will be able to deal with it smoothly.

I also rode a Porsche Turbo and Carrera for 5 years. How to seal Bosch's battery was relatively dead. The location of the battery cannot be charged because the bonnet does not open inside the bonnet. Free if you don't bring the engine starter charger to your dealer or repair shop. Even if you charge from the fuse box, the starter motor will rotate, but the engine will not start. When the bonnet finally opens, replace the battery. Porsche and Ferrari still have no repairs for oil leaks and oil combustion within the expected range
If there is no backup power supply, the basic settings will skip, so I turned on the backup power supply and replaced the battery. I want a warning sound or a warning light that the battery goes up. Yahori Japanese car is good.
Hello, Mieharu Shimizu.
Certainly, Japanese cars are better for such places.
However, in my case, even if I put it aside, I am attracted to the running performance of imported cars, so I just focus on imported cars ^ ^
I was strongly influenced by this blog and bought 970 Panamera. Certainly I wasn't aware that the trunk wouldn't open. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Thank you for your cooperation.
Hello Kima.
Thank you for always reading. Congratulations to 970 Panamera!
Recent cars are all electric devices, so it's a problem at such times.
To prevent that from happening, you have to ride diligently or charge it. ..
It was a very helpful article. Our 992 Carrera is located in a huge tower parking room with a capacity of 4 * 100 cars in a tower condominium, so it would be great if it couldn't be moved due to a dead battery. I knew all the steps in the article, but I'm not confident that I can actually do this on the tower parking pallet in a short amount of time and get out of the pallet. If I get stuck here, other residents will not be able to leave the car and it will be a big nuisance, so I am only afraid. So don't raise the battery anyway. Drive at least once every two weeks, check the battery meter from time to time while driving, unplug the dashcam when parking the apartment, and finally turn off the car's alarm. This is possible by double-clicking on the key to lock it. I know that I went camping with this car and slept in a tent next to 992, but when I locked it normally, the alarm device was on all night, and the LED light next to the side mirror flashed red. You can tell by doing it. When I stop overnight in a flat parking lot for an overnight trip, I leave the alarm device on, but I think that it is consuming the battery as it is. Also, this car seems to automatically upload its position and trip data to the Porsche server, so I think that it is also consuming battery in such a place.
Hi Tak Kite
When I park in the mechanical parking lot, I also double-click the key to turn off security.
By the way, I have left it for about a month and a half with the 992 normally attached with security, but there was no problem in starting it.
Of course, I think it will change depending on whether you ride a lot of long distances or a little bit, but I feel that the 992 is okay in my experience for at least a month.
For your reference.
Hiro, thank you for your reply.
The battery doesn't run out even if the 992 is left with security for a month and a half!
We are still in the first year of delivery, and so far our 992 runs an average of 800-900km a month, so I thought I shouldn't worry too much, but I was a little relieved.
Thank you!
