A special one that fills the void of the 993 911 Speedster.

Looking back at the history of Porsche, one notices a void in the late 1990s. The prestigious German manufacturer first introduced the 911 Speedster in the G series, and then followed up with a similar body style in the 964 generation. However, in the following 993 generation, this unique open-top model did not appear in its official production form. To date, Porsche has produced only two 993 Speedsters, one of which is currently on display at the Porsche Museum.

In the midst of all this, Porsche announced the completion of its third 993 Speedster by its custom-built division, Sonderwunsch. This particular car was built for Milan-based designer and avid collector Luca Trazzi. Mr. Trazzi wanted to transform a 1994 911 Carrera Cabriolet into a full-fledged speedster with a two-seat layout, shortened windshield, and distinctive rear cowling, and commissioned Porsche's custom-built team to do so.

Mechanism inherited from Carrera RS DNA

Mechanically, the Speedster shares many chassis, steering, and brake components with the 993-generation 911 Carrera RS. Most importantly, the engine has been upgraded to the same specifications originally installed for the Carrera RS. It has a displacement of 3.8 liters and produces about 300 hp.

This power unit, combined with the lightweight and compact body, makes for a dynamic driving experience that, when combined with the well-balanced chassis of the 993 911, makes this speedster a car that is pure driving pleasure.

Designed with the owner's passion

In terms of styling, Mr. Trazzi was involved with a great deal of initiative in the creation of one of his own. The project took approximately three years to complete. He communicated directly with the Sonderwunsch department and had access to Porsche's internal archives for inspiration.

As a result, elements inspired by the 993 Turbo, such as the front splitter, side skirts, and rear quarter panels, can be seen throughout. The seats feature a checkered pattern reminiscent of older 911s, while the entire cabin also incorporates modern materials such as carbon fiber, creating a fusion of old and new.

The body color is a new color called "Otto Yellow," named after Luca Trazzi's beloved dog. The rear of the car has a unique "double bubble" shape, which is unique to the Speedster and gives it a sporty look reminiscent of a racing car.

Spinning the lineage of the 993 Speedster

Technically the third factory-built 993-generation 911 Speedster, this is the sportiest and most thorough commission to date: the first was completed in 1995 for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and was built on a base Carrera body with a The second was built in 2001 based on the 4S variant, including wider fenders, and is currently owned by a private client.

Although Mr. Trazzi's 993 Speedster is a one-off creation, it is a signal of Porsche and its Sonderwunsch division's willingness to build more special cars. Given how extensive the development of this car was, it is quite possible that more one-off models will appear in the near future.

For Porsche enthusiasts, the existence of such a special model is a source of great excitement: the 993 911 was the last 911 with an air-cooled engine and has been enthusiastically supported by many fans. The realization of such a 993 Speedster in a form that combines modern technology and classic design is a new page in Porsche's history.

This special car is a good example of how Porsche is able to meet the demands of its customers with sincerity and the ability to realize them with the highest level of technology. For Porsche enthusiasts, the existence of such a special project may be an opportunity to further deepen their attachment to their own cars. And one day, I would like to own a custom-built one myself.
