Touring in a Boxster - New Discoveries

The other day, I went touring in a 981 Boxster GTS for the first time in a while.
Having had the opportunity to drive a variety of Porsches, I was once again reminded of the appeal of touring in a Boxster, and this touring made me think deeply about the question, "What is a fun Porsche?" and I will try to write about that in this article.

Live Streaming Summary] Vol. 51: Spectacular Touring in a Porsche Boxster!

The Boxster's appeal stands out in long-distance touring, especially on winding roads, compared to other models such as the 911 and Cayman,There were numerous moments when I felt like, "This has to be it."I am not sure why. In this issue, I will delve into the reasons why.

Music played by NA engine

The first attraction of the 981 Boxster is the pleasant sound of its naturally aspirated (NA) engine.

Unlike the turbocharged engines of the 718 Cayman and 992 911, the driver's intention is conveyed directly to the car, and unlike the turbocharged engines of the 718 Cayman and 992 911, the car does not accelerate rapidly with a slight pressure on the accelerator pedal, but rather, the speed increases in accordance with the amount of acceleration.

981 Boxster GTS

Even when driving in fixed second and third gears, acceleration is never too sharp or too fast. The engine produces a beautiful exhaust note that sounds as if it is singing, and the sound is pleasant and full of grain.Just a nimble ride up the mountain road takes the driver to a world of bliss. The following is a list of the most common problems with the "C" in the "C" column.

The best of open air

The Boxster's major feature, the retractable roof, doubles the fun of driving. With the roof open, the sound of the engine is even more appealing. While the bass sound echoing through the cabin is wonderful, the live sound of the engine and exhaust from the open-air cabin is exceptional.

Furthermore, they can run while directly feeling the outside air, smells, and light. This isThe unique appeal of a convertible car that cannot be experienced in a closed-body car.It is the best moment for Porsche drivers. Driving while enjoying a sense of oneness with nature is the best moment for Porsche drivers.

balanced performance

Compared to the latest Porsche models, the 981 Boxster's response is a bit milder, with a certain "looseness" to it. However, this characteristic creates a suppleness in the chassis that makes it fun to drive on winding roads. The appeal of the 981 Boxster is that it not only responds faithfully to steering wheel operation, but also allows the driver to control the car's behavior with the accelerator pedal.

Enjoy interacting with the car even at ordinary road speedsThis was the characteristic of Porsche up to this era. While the precise and unmatched behavior of the latest models is appealing, the 981 Boxster is exceptional in its ability to draw out the driver's skills and allow the driver to experience a sense of oneness with the car.

981 Boxster GTS

On this touring trip, we drove through the winding roads around Mt.
The 981 Boxster has a moderate ride height and excellent ride comfort, allowing the driver to drive without worrying about undulating roads and slight bumps. This is something that is difficult to achieve with lower ride height models such as the GT3.

When touring with the GT3 in the past, when I increased the speed to enjoy the sound of the engine, I had to be nervous about the undulations and bumps on the road surface. Braking lowered the car's height, and sometimes it almost scraped the front spoiler. This required careful selection of driving routes and constant attention to road conditions.

In contrast, regular models like the 981 Boxster,Feel free to drive on any road. The car is then driven in a way that is both comfortable and enjoyable. This allows the driver to concentrate on interacting with the car and enjoy pure driving pleasure. For Porsche owners, nothing could be more luxurious.

Not only the Boxster, but the experience of driving a convertible up a winding road in the early morning is a blissful time that every Porsche driver should experience at least once. The exhilaration of driving through nature and the sense of oneness with the car are moments that cannot be fully expressed in words.

What I consider to be the ideal Porsche,How enjoyable it is on ordinary roads and in everyday driving situations. The 981 Boxster is a truly excellent sports car. The 981 Boxster is one of the models that fulfills this requirement.

For Porsche drivers, the criteria for selecting a car may vary from person to person.
It is possible to buy it for collection purposes, or for the desire to own or show off. It is also great to buy one for circuit driving.
The 981 Boxster is a model that has both of these qualities.

981 Boxster GTS

Finally, I would like to say to all Porsche drivers. Once in a Boxster, no matter which model it is.The experience of opening the roof and driving through the early morning windingI would like you to taste the
At that moment, your whole body will understand even more why you chose Porsche. For that is the essence of Porsche and the reason why we love the brand.

I have a 2015 Cayman and the 981 will soon be 10 years old, even the last model.
It depends on how it is used, but I would like to have an article about regular maintenance as well as freshening up the suspension and other parts of the car.

      Hello 981GTS.
Indeed, it's been almost 10 years.
I would like to write another article about refreshment.
Thank you for your continued support.

Hi Hiro, long time no see.

That's exactly what this article is about, my thoughts exactly! I sympathize with you.
Last month, I drove my beloved 981 Boxster through Kyushu after a typhoon. It was already great!
Niigata - Kobe Port - Miyazaki Port - Osumi Peninsula - Sakurajima - Ibusuki Skyline - Takachiho - Aso Outer Rim - Yamanami Highway - Takeda - Unzen - Yobuko - Mojiko - Osaka Nanko - Niigata ... 3500 km in 10 days. I spoke with local riders everywhere I went, and they were all surprised to hear, "You drove from Niigata (*_*)? They were all surprised.
Although I was somewhat tired, the fun of driving the Boxster far outweighed the fatigue, and it was a very satisfying touring experience.
It really feels good to be open, doesn't it? It enriches our lives.
I have just returned home, but after reading Master Wata's latest GT of Hokkaido, I have an urge to go to northern Hokkaido, which I could not visit last summer.

      Hello, Court Kavan.

It has been a while since I have been here.
I am glad you agree with the article!
Kyushu is nice too...just looking at your comment makes me want to go there lol.
Every time I read Master Wata's articles on Hokkaido GT, I always want to go there, but I can't make it.
I would like to go there someday with my Boxster.

  3. Yuki

I always enjoy reading your blog.
I drive an early 987 and I really agree with you about the openness and the fact that it can be enjoyed at any speed.
The Boxster I am currently driving is a model that I can drive without hesitation, "just right" for me in every way.

The 987 is becoming a classic, but if you maintain it properly,
It is a wonderful car to enjoy while listening to good dry sound.
(Although it is unpopular with my partner for being too noisy...)

If you have a chance to drive the 987, please let us know what you think of it, Hiro.

      Hi Yuki.
Thank you for reading our blog.
We have a 986, but unfortunately we don't have a 987 Boxster yet!
      Probably a pretty fun Boxster.
Please look forward to my review of the 987 when I get a chance.
