I asked my husband, who drives a Porsche 911 (964C2) every day, what he likes about it [Part 2].

Porsche Attraction

I'll give you the second part of my thoughts on air-cooling.

The other day.I asked my husband, who drives a 911 (964C2) every day, what he likes about it [Part 1].and we would like to follow that up with the second part of this report.

I asked my husband, who drives a Porsche 911 (964C2) every day, what he likes about it [Part 1].

But after I finished writing the second part, my husband'I know I said it like that the other day, but as I rode along it started to feel different again.(laugh) Well, but since I wrote it down, I will first try to post what it says at this point.

About air-cooled engines

991 (964C2) engine

An air-cooled engine is different from a water-cooled one."in TokyoAir-cooled engines are good!"I often hear people say, "I wonder how my husband feels about that.

The engine wakes up more quickly than you'd expect when you turn the key. After a brief moment of slightly uneven idling, the revs quickly stabilize, and I don't think it's that different from a modern car.

My husband says. Following the design philosophy of German cars, my husband does not warm up the car by idling it, but rather he warms up the engine, transmission, and moving parts by running the car slowly and immediately. The vehicle has enough torque and power to move the 1,410 kg weight of the vehicle. He said.

Like other Porsches, the 964 responds faithfully to the subtle opening of the accelerator pedal. The fact that the car moves forward as much as you step on the gas pedal reminds me once again that this is a Porsche after all.

He said.

It's just that "It is said that air-cooled engines turn well, but as expected, compared to a modern Boxster or 911, not so much, in my honest opinion.I think it depends a lot on individual differences and the way the car has been used. I guess it depends on the individual and how the car has been used, but in my husband's experience, the modern Porsche is the best choice.(The weight of the flywheel greatly influences the feel of the car when it is idling, so it's just a feeling when the car is actually running.)

But just so there is no misunderstanding, it is not an engine that does not turn, it turns very well. It's just thatMore than that, the latest Porsche six-cylinder engines rev much better, are torquey and smooth!Impressively, water-cooled engines are more frictional than air-cooled engines(small "friction" or "drag" throughout the engine)The engine feels like an engine with low and high compression ratio of(Not actual figures, just an impression)

I was told that. But my husband thinks "air-cooled engines are good! I don't know if this was obvious in the first few days, but I'm sure it was. This is something we didn't know in the first few days. The RPM feeling and torque are absolutely addictive."He said.(I still don't know what that feels like)

Why do you feel that way?" I asked.

I don't know how to explain it in words. It spins smoothly despite the hefty mechanical noise."The contradiction between the two may be addictive. Air-cooled engines are not quiet, and the vibration and sound of the cylinders can be heard outside. The sound of an air-cooled engine is not so quiet, and the vibration and sound of the cylinders can be heard from the outside. I guess that's what makes it so appealing.

He said.

991 (964C2) engine sound

So what about the sound of an air-cooled engine?

Air-cooled engines sound good."There is no disagreement that this is the case. The sound of the air-cooled engine is somewhat solidly loud, even at idle. TheMostly mechanical noise, with a small percentage of exhaust noise. The ratio does not change even when the engine is running at medium to high RPM. The ratio remains the same even when the engine is running at medium to high RPM, and the sound of explosions, noises from moving parts, intake air, and tappet sounds are all mixed together to create a unique sound.
This analog sound is hard to hear in modern cars.I think it's the sound of the air-cooled engine. People who like the sound of air-cooled engines must be attracted to this.

He said. Also, when comparing the sound of a water-cooled engine with that of an air-cooled engine, it seems that one is better than the other! It seems that it is not possible to say that "water-cooled engine sound" is better than "air-cooled engine sound".Modern water-cooled and air-cooled Porsches have different engine sound genres to begin with.And.

I think the engine sound of modern water-cooled Porsche engines has a much larger proportion of exhaust sound compared to air-cooled engines. As for the Boxster, the sound of the engine can of course be heard, but it is the exhaust sound that is equally or even more audible. Some may feel that this is a "made sound" or "artificial sound," but it is a pleasant sound. The following is a list of the most common problems with the "C" in the "C" column.
If I were to force an analogy, I would say that the sound of an air-cooled engine is like a percussion instrument, while a modern water-cooled engine is like a wind instrument. I hope this gives you some idea of what I mean.

He said. So, as to whether you feel that water-cooled or air-cooled engines sound better. It's completely a matter of taste, and I don't think it's something to compare and compare superiority to inferiority. This was the case.

It's fun, it feels good, it's reassuring.

My husband's impression at this point is.The 964 Carrera 2 is a touring machine. It is said that.If you are going to attack winding roads such as Ashiu, I personally prefer the Boxster GTS for its more "pleasant feeling".He said. The reason he thinks so is the Boxster's stable mid-ship turning ability and the speed at which the engine rises in revs from the penetrating exhaust note and power of the engine.

On the other hand, for tourer-like use, the 964 feels less tiring than the Boxster.(However, he said that his impression of this may change at a later date since he has not driven such a long distance with the 911.)By all accounts, it has more sound and vibration than the Boxster, but the strong sense of ground contact and the solid feel of the body may lead one to believe so.Therefore, a sense of 'reassurance' is stronger with the 911.

So, the road that I would most like to drive in a 911 (964C2) is...It is a "country road," he said.

In Japan, the best places would be the Tsumagoi Panorama Line, the Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido in Okayama, and the wide-area farm roads in various parts of Japan. If you want, the Romantic Road in Germany is the best!I think it's a great car. It's great to cruise around with the Tiptronic locked in 2nd or 3rd gear, listening to the sound of the air-cooled engine at a moderate pace.
The car is not a car that should be driven in a frenzy. Instead, it is a car that is well suited to a situation where the mechanical noise of the engine is the background music, and the car is driven through one or two gentle curves while maintaining a slightly high pace. When entering a tight corner, the driver must be aware of the load transfer, and the traction is firmly applied to the rear wheels as the car exits the corner.
such (about the actions of the listener, or about ideas expressed or understood by the listener)Fun."I think that air-cooled 911s have

She said. My husband is already completely addicted to air-cooling (laughs). When I say I am going out for shopping, etc.Why not go with air-cooling?"I have not been able to share the joy of air-cooled cars with my husband because I prefer the Panamera and my daughters in the back seat start to get rowdy if I drive more than 20 minutes in an air-cooled car... but I would like to drive it again when the time is right. I would like to ride in an air-cooled car again.

    Good evening!

I enjoyed reading the air-cooled report on your husband...

I was impressed by your accurate report even though you have only been a member of Air Cooling for a short period of time.
I have not been able to express myself this well even though I have been driving a 964 for a quarter of a century at last.

    >Most of the noise is mechanical, with a small percentage of exhaust noise.
    That's right!

After all, I personally love air-cooled cars, where I can hear the scrape of the engine cylinders and the jolting sound of oil circulating, more than modern sports cars, where the exhaust sound is the main attraction.

      Ingenieur.
      Thanks for all your comments!
I am very glad to hear you say so.

      >I love the hands-on air-cooling, with the audible jolting sound of circulating oil.

When my husband saw the comments I received, he said, "Yes! Yes! That's right! I love the sound of this jolting sound!" He was so excited!
When I start the engine, I think to myself, "I can't wait for the oil to warm up," waiting for that sound.

The structure was so analog that it felt like a living, living thing with blood in its veins.
He says he can't get enough of it, including the hissing sound of the air conditioner, and he would love to record it and listen to it all the time (laughs).
