Published on: 06.18.2019
In a Porsche press release this morning, it said, "New 718 GT4 and 718 Spyder presented with NA 4-liter engineSo, my husband wrote a brief draft of the points of interest to me, which I would like to share with you below.
New 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder
This morning, the long-awaited press release popped up.
The new 718 GT4 and 718 Spyder.Let me quickly summarize the points I was interested in.
420 PS! Long-awaited 6-cylinder NA engine
Both the 718 Cayman GT4 and the 718 Spyder werePowered by a 4-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder NA engineDo.
The power is a whopping 420 PS. This engine isBased on the same engine as the current 911 Carrera model series turbo engineThe engine seems to be a little different from the existing GT3 series engines, as they are designed to be
Even so, it is rare to find an NA engine with more than 100 PS per liter in this day and age. MoreoverRev limit is 8000 rpm!Despite its performance, it is also environmentally friendly, with a European combined fuel economy of 10.9 l/100 km (approx. 9.17 km/L), which is impressive.
First, let's listen to the exhaust note of interest in the video released.
It's a little different in tone than the GTS, Spyder, and GT4 of the 981 era.It sounds like a thicker, more sonic sound, similar to GT3.I'm sure we can count on this. This looks promising.
Manual transmission only for the hardcore.
The GT4 and Spyder do not appear to have PDK at this time. similar to the previous generation model.Equipped with 6-speed transmissionThe maximum speed is The maximum speed isGT4 is 304km/h, Spyder is 301km/hand it is the first time for the Cayman and Boxster series to exceed 300 km/h.Acceleration from 0-100km/h is also 4.4 seconds for both cars. The first time I ran through the city in
A decade ago, it would have been completely in the realm of supercars, and the fact that it is achieved with a manual transmission sets it apart from its rivals.
Personally, I would like to see a PDK version, but perhaps Porsche is aware of its target audience of manual-loving Porsche purists, and perhaps they were trying to avoid a breakdown of the hierarchy, as a PDK version would beat its big brother, the 911, if it were bad enough.
Aerodynamics of the 718 Cayman GT4
It is said to gain 501 TP2T more downforce than its predecessor, especially 301 TP2T near the rear single-chamber arch rear silencer (rear diffuser). The new rear wing generates 201 TP2T more downforce than its predecessor at 200 km/h, plus 12 kgThe company says it will do so.
718 Spyder top
The top appears to be basically the same as the previous generation, with a lightweight soft top in the tradition of the 550 Spyder and 718 RS 60 Spyder. It is similar to its predecessor in that it is opened and closed manually by disengaging the electromagnetic locks. Needless to say, thisSoft top can be used at a maximum speed of 301 km/h without problemsIt is.
Chassis Performance of the 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder
Both cars were lowered by about 30 mm.The new model is equipped with PASM and PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring).Newly designed "GT Brake" brakes are installed. The GT4 will also be available with the optional Clubsport package, which includes a rear steel roll bar, fire extinguisher, and six-point seat belts on the driver's side. Also. The 718 Spyder will be available with Porsche's own Ultra High Performance (UHP) tires. He said.
GT4 sold with optimal settings for driving on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (North Course)The new model is said to be 10 seconds faster than its predecessor, which is surprising.
This is a brief summary of the features about the new 718 Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder.
For more information, the official flyer below will make it easier to understand.
In a nutshell.I have a reservation for the 718 Spyder, but I'm wondering if I should swap it for the 981 Boxster GTS.The reason for this is that I am not sure I want to give up the beauty of the 981 GTS. The reasons are that I would hate to give up the beauty of the 981 GTS exhaust, and the manual soft top is a bit of a convenience issue for me as a long distance touring enthusiast.

Good evening, MIna.
It came out with a NA 4.0L 6-cylinder as rumored, and my ears turned out to be unreliable as I also saw the spy video of the 781Spyder and decided that this was the sound of a 4-cylinder turbo.
I am very interested in the 718Spyder because I have seen the evolution of the chassis of the 718 from the 981. And I want it very much because I think this time it will be the last NA!
The price will be more affordable than a 911 role. The price would also be more reasonable than a 911. However, I am worried that I will not be able to enjoy running the engine any more if the power goes up any higher, since I cannot use it even with my 981 Spyder. (But honestly, I want one!). I'm still thinking about it, but I'd like to participate this time. I'm sure that the slots will be filled up while I'm still thinking about it, but I hope that it will go to someone who really likes Boxsters and not for investment purposes.
I am still amazed at the speed of information that I have seen the first report of this 718 Spyder on this blog. I am looking forward to more information from you in the future.
Mr. Ishi.
Thank you for everything.
>As rumored, it came out with a NA 4.0L 6-cylinder.
As I thought, it's out! But I, too, thought it was totally different from the sound of the Boxster GTS - more like the sound of a GT3, or something strange like that.
>And I want it so bad because this time it will be the last NA!
Yes, it has been said, "This is the last time, this is the last time," and it really could be the last time, and it is very fascinating.
>I am amazed at the speed of the information, and I am surprised to see the first report of this 718 Spyder on this blog.
Thank you very much...(laugh) My husband has been checking the Porsche news every day, and the first thing he said when he woke up this morning was, "718 Cayman GT4 and Spyder are finally out! (Laughs).
I'm sure my husband will be writing news articles and test drive articles from now on.
I look forward to working with you and your wife ^^^!
Hiro
Nice to meet you, I always enjoy reading Hiro's implied reviews. I didn't realize that this article belonged to Hiro, and I made a comment addressed to Mina earlier. My apologies.
718SPYDER You are in line.
Opening and closing the manual top is easier and less troublesome than expected. If your touring destination is in the countryside, you will not have much trouble if you open and close the top while watching the weather. The only thing I would say is that when you want to go straight to the toilet while driving, you need to close the top while holding back a lot.
As for the sound, I am concerned about the effect of the catalyst, but if you don't like the sound, I think you can switch to a used 981Spyder because they should be more readily available at that time (← sorry for being irresponsible).
Mr. Ishi.
Thank you for everything!
You commented to my husband, but I will comment to you.
>Opening and closing the manual top is easier and less cumbersome than I expected.
It would be nice if it wasn't such a hassle, but I tend to open and close it while I'm running.
I was wondering what to do about that.
He also said, "If you don't like the sound, you might be able to buy another 981 Spyder" (laughs).
I'd be happy to learn more from you!
I applied for a voxpa myself. But I guess they don't turn the slots around.
My neighbor's dealer said that the last time he was at Voxpa and GT4, there were 6 people waiting for both, and 6 cars came in for GT4, but only 1 car for Voxpa.
Sakonin.
Hello.
>I applied for voxpa myself.
Oh yes!
>According to a dealer in my neighborhood, the last time they had a voxpa and a GT4, both had 6 people waiting, and the GT4 had 6 cars coming in, but the voxpa had only 1 car.
I knew it was a very narrow gate...
We can't do anything about this...
If you get a slot, please let us know!
Good evening, Mina-san.
Thank you for introducing Mr. H the other day.
I also lined up for the GT4 at Mr. H's dealership, but it's clear that I'm not going to win a production slot if I have no past experience at all, but we'll see what happens.
If I get a GT4, it may be the last pure gasoline car I ever get.
Well then ...
O.
Thank you!
>I also lined up for the GT4 at Mr. H's dealership, and it's clear that I'm not going to win a production slot if I have no past experience at all, but we'll see how it goes.
Oh yes!!! Seems like the GT4 has a relatively large number of slots compared to other limited edition cars.
That dealership has quite a few heavyweight customers and a large customer base....
If you get a slot, we'd love to hear all about it!
Due to emission regulations and fuel economy, the number of cars that can be genuinely enjoyed is really decreasing...
Thank you again and keep 'em coming!
I was not so interested in it at first, but after reading various information, I became interested in it, so I am late in commenting on it.
Finally, the cylinder cutoff has arrived. It's amazing how low the RPMs alternate one bank at a time while driving.
It seems that there are many more technologies (environmentally friendly) for extending the life of NAs.
However, it seems to make me want to keep the engine rpm higher and higher...
I was just wondering if it is possible to cut the cylinders, since the 718 Cayman and 991.2 Carrera have idling stop, but the engine starts immediately when using the air conditioner, etc. F1 engines used to do this, and the Indy car engine also seems to only have one cylinder when idling. It seems that only one cylinder is used when idling. It would be nice if it could be used in a variety of models.
Also, it seems that an on/off switch for AUTO BLIP has finally been added. I think this could be incorporated in older models, but I'm not sure.
PorscheDreamer.
Is it time to decide on the allocation of the 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4?
I've heard that our Panamera Turbo, with the V8, also has one bank on normal roads.
It is amazing to see that it is also included in these models.
>Also, it seems that an on/off switch for AUTO BLIP has finally been added. I think this could be incorporated in older models, but I'm not sure.
I would certainly like to see this switch incorporated into older models. That would expand the enjoyment of MT cars.
I remember that Panamera Turbo was the first.
> In this process, the intake and exhaust cam adjusters on the camshafts for cylinders two, three, five and eight are deactivated or reactivated as necessary. The intake and exhaust valves of these cylinders are completely shut down in four-cylinder operation. Cylinder deactivation is operational over an engine speed range from 950 to 3,500 rpm and up to a torque limit of 250 Nm.
This seems to be a trick unique to the V8, rather than a single bank.
I guess the amazing thing is that it seems to have been realized in NA without any discomfort.
PorscheDreamer.
Oh... thank you for taking the trouble to write in English...!
I understand very well.
>I guess the amazing thing is that it seems to have been achieved in NA without any discomfort.
If someone buys one, I would love to have a ride and check it out (laughs).
