I drive a 981 Boxster GTS, and when I drive a 718 Boxster GTS?

Reviews & Test Rides

718 Boxster GTS

About a year ago, I had the opportunity to drive a 718 Boxster GTS (MT) owned by a friend of my husband. However, at that time, I could not drive a manual car very well, so my husband asked me to drive the 718 Boxster GTS (MT) for him.

Don't do it, Mina. You'll break the clutch.

I gave up the idea of being allowed to drive the 718 Boxster GTS in tears.

And that's the thing.I said to myself, "I'm going to learn to drive a manual car!" I'm going to be able to drive a manual car!and within two weeks of that, I bought myself a BMW 320i and practiced every day.

Thanks to that, I can now drive a Boxster or GT3 normally.

And it was a big turning point for me.I had the opportunity to drive the 718 Boxster GTS again. The owner of the restaurant at that time was coming to Ashiu for a long time, so I decided to go with him.

On that day a year ago, I was in the driver's seat of a 718 GTS, and I was thrilled just by stepping on the clutch and moving the shift lever. The clutch is light, and so is the shift lever! This seems to be easy to drive.I found myself feeling that "I'm not a good person.

However, I was not sure if it was because I had driven a left-hand drive manual transmission Boxster just before, or if it was because when I got into the right-hand drive 718GTS and moved the shift lever, the shift lever was not as easy to move as it had been before.I put it in 5th gear when I meant to put it in 1st gear.

What's the matter with you, you're so nervous!

I started the engine and started the car, consciously trying not to stall it... but my feeling was that it was easier to start than the 981 Boxster GTS, and it moved forward smoothly and lightly.

."718 tends to stall when starting.I've heard rumors of "GTS", but I didn't hear that at all.

Also, the steering wheel seems to be a little lighter than the 981.(My husband said, "Oh, yeah?" (although my husband said, "Really?")The overall impression was that it was very easy to drive.

718 Boxster GTS, test drive

The most surprising thing about driving the 718 for me was that it was "aThe engine was very quiet.I'm not sure.... ...or maybe my 981 is too loud....

When driving with the sport exhaust switched on, the overall engine sound was very quiet. I tried accelerating a bit in a lower gear, and although I could hear the bass, I did not hear much of the engine noise that seemed to jump with the RPMs.

In addition, theThe bobbing sound when the accelerator is released and the sound during auto blipping are also less loud than the 981.And I was surprised to see how different the same GTS can be. In this regard, the owners of the 718 Boxster GTS also

I was surprised at how quiet my 718's engine sounded after being driven in a 981 for so long. I'm kind of in shock..."

He said.

It is quiet as far as engine noise goes, but it is very easy to drive, very precise around curves, and I felt that it is a sports car that can be driven anywhere with ease. By the way, my husband is a

As for the volume, maybe it's just too much because the sound is so low. Anyway, the sound is bass oriented and sounds like a V8 if anything. I think there is a zone where the sound is louder and a zone where it is not so loud, depending on the combination of gears and RPMs. I'll have to ride a bit more to find out exactly which gear and what speed. Another big difference between the 718 and the 981 is the suspension. There is nothing wrong with the 981, but the 718 is really more solid, and it feels like the 981's ambiguity has been removed and cleared up. Especially, I can clearly feel the difference in the rear footing and stability when I drive.

He said.

I guess the same Boxster is totally different from one generation to the next, I'd love to drive a 986 Boxster, or any previous generation Boxster for that matter!

Thank you very much, Mr. K, for giving us a ride this time!

    Mina.

As for the stalling, I don't think the GTS is special, but probably the difference in displacement between the 2.0L base grade and the 2.5L S and higher grades.

I agree with Mina's opinion about the sound. But I can't really say, because sound is a matter of likes and dislikes. I like the sound of the 981, of course.

As for the other comparison between 718 (982) and 981, I thought it was as summarized in your husband's comment. I think that even a non-enthusiast can tell the difference by comparing the two. I think the evolution from 981 to 718 is that significant. I am looking forward to seeing how Porsche will finish the 718, which is rumored to be converted to a hybrid or EV.

      Mr. Ishi.
      Thank you for everything!

      >Perhaps it is the difference in displacement between the 2.0L base grade and the 2.5L S or higher grade.
I see...! I would like to drive a 2.0L 718 once. It looks like it would stall really hard (laughs).

I was reminded that engine sound is a really important element in driving a car.
The sound would totally change the enjoyment of driving...

The evolution of the 981 to 718 as a car is indeed amazing.
I am looking forward to seeing how it will evolve in the future, and I hope that I will be able to test drive many more things in the future.

    Dear Mina

    Good evening.

    I enjoy reading each update.

I envy you for being able to drive various models and grades of Porsche ^_^.

You mentioned torque before at the bare 718, but I first bought a 970Se hybrid and now a 971.4E hybrid, so I may not know what a normal Porsche feels like, on the contrary (...)

I would also like to have a report on how the motor makes the torque feel at low speeds and the difference in response between the motor and the engine ^_^.

      Thank you for everything.
I am truly grateful for this environment that allows me to drive a variety of Porsches.

      >I also hope to get a report on how the motor makes the torque feel at low speeds and the difference in response between the motor and the engine ^_^.
I haven't driven many Porsche hybrids.
I would love to ride it if I have the chance!

There is no doubt that the number of hybrid vehicles will increase in the future.
I will try to write a comparison article when I get a chance to ride again. Thank you!

  3. possible

Thank you for the ride comparison report. Sound is one of the most important things I look for in a car. I am amazed at how different the settings are even for the same Boxster. It is also interesting to imagine how Porsche thinks about these settings when designing the car.
While the 4.0 is an NA 6-cylinder, it probably doesn't sound like a 981, so the 981GTS will be a very valuable car, so please take good care of it. Today, I went to Nara to look at 981GTS. I will consider many things for a while.

Thank you very much for your help the other day.
Thank you for this valuable opportunity.

As you said, it was really different for the same Boxster and
I was also amazed at the evolution.

      >Today I went to Nara to see 981GTS.
      Oh yes!

Thank you very much. My husband doesn't seem to want to give it up, and if he accidentally says he will, I will do my best to stop him (laughs).
I would like to ride it carefully for a long time.
Thank you for your continued support.
