Evaluation Criteria for Test Ride of the Year 2024
The evaluation criteria for this year's Test Ride of the Year 2024 are the usualDriving pleasureThe main focus of the evaluation was on In particular, the evaluation was made from the viewpoint of whether or not the vehicle is enjoyable enough for touring and daily use.
Let us now announce the results of the 2024 Test Drive of the Year.
No. 3: 986 Porsche Boxster S - Ease of driving and driving feel
Third place went to the 986 Porsche Boxster S. This was my first time driving a 986. This was the first time for me to drive a 986, and I was blown away by its excellence.
The balance between ease of driving, ride comfort, and driving performance is excellent. There are probably many sports cars today that can't beat this Boxster. It would even be wiser to choose the 986 Boxster than to buy a poor new sports car.
The suspension is not hard. In fact, it is on the softer side, but it has a certain sense of security. The 252 horsepower is not a lot of power, but it is enjoyable and allows the driver to step on the accelerator pedal aggressively.
The sense of oneness with the car is breathtaking. The phrase "Jinba Ittai" (rider and horse as one) is often used to describe the true meaning of the phrase, and this car is the true embodiment of Jinba Ittai. The driver can control the load transfer by gas pedal work and steer the car freely. The driver can truly experience the sensation of "turning the car with the gas pedal.
The 986 Boxster S has so much to offer that it makes you think, "That's enough Porsche. It is a car that I definitely want to own someday.

No. 2: Porsche Taikan Turbo S - no longer an electric 911
In second place is the Porsche Taikan Turbo S. We have a Taikan 4S Cross Turismo at home, but the Turbo S is even better.
Porsche has made sure to create value that is worth the high price. There are some differences in optional equipment such as PDCC, but more than that, I got the impression that the tuning was different.
The Turbo S we test-drove had been driven approximately 40,000 km, but it retained the same high quality feel as if it were a new car. When overboosted, the car delivers 761 hp and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in an astonishing 2 seconds.
However, the true appeal of the Taikan Turbo S is not only its overwhelming acceleration. The true essence of this car is its ability to combine a comfortable ride with high driving performance. It feels as if you are driving a 911 4S, 4 GTS, or Turbo.
Despite the vehicle's weight of over 2.2 tons, it is so agile that its weight is not felt at all. Cornering performance is noteworthy, and the driver can enjoy precision handling that is like threading a needle in a haystack.
The comfort level is also one rank higher than other Taikan models. This car is a crystallization of Porsche's technology that achieves both driving and ride comfort at a high dimension. It will be one of the best choices for Porsche owners who want to enjoy soulful driving.
It is currently available on the used car market at a very reasonable price, so those interested should consider it. I can definitely vouch for its value.

No. 1: The 996 Porsche 911 40th Anniversary Model - An all-rounder that embodies the essence of the 911
And the honored first place for the 2024 Test Drive of the Year was awarded to the 40th anniversary model of the 996 Porsche 911.
Words cannot fully express how wonderful this car is.The fact that it was a special 40th anniversary model may have had an impact, but it was a car that reminded us of the true appeal of the 996 911.
It is easy to drive, comfortable to drive, and exquisitely sized. It can be said that this is a 911 near the end of its life, where you can truly experience the feeling of "wearing a Porsche". The engine vibrations and oscillations are minimal, and even when revving up to around 4000 rpm, there is no stress at all.
Even on busy city streets, the engine can enjoy stress-free engine extension and shifting gears. This is a Porsche that allows you to fully enjoy the sensation of "driving".
The 911 is an all-around car that can be driven anywhere, on any road, and is the kind of car that a 911 should be. It can be driven anywhere, fits in anywhere, and can be enjoyed in any situation. This car is the perfect embodiment of the ideal that Dr. Porsche had in mind.
Although it has many features similar to the 986 Boxster S, I personally felt strongly that I would like to own this 996 911 40th Anniversary model. The 911 is the perfect everyday companion. It is a car that allows you to discover new attractions every time you drive it.
It was a great car, worthy of the number one spot of all the cars we test drove this year, by a landslide. I would like to thank and congratulate the owners from the bottom of my heart! I would like to say.

I always enjoy reading your articles.
Please forgive me for commenting on something unrelated to the article.
I recently saw a list of their cars on your blog and was wondering when you gave up your 992 Cabriolet?
I have recently been interested in the 992 Carrera and am very curious as to why you gave it up. If you have any articles that can tell me how it happened, I would like to know.
And I think you had a contract for a Fairlady Z in a previous article, but is the delivery date still unknown for that one?
I have been seeing more and more of them around town lately and am wondering how your husband would rate them when he drives them.
Hello, KK.
I had talked about both the 992 and the Fairlady Z on X.com (Twitter) and on the live feed, but not on my blog.
992 around the beginning of this year.
The reason is simple: I am buying a new Porsche with the intention of giving it away as soon as possible because I can always buy a new one, and I personally find 981, 991, and even older Porsches more enjoyable to drive.
The 992 is a very good and fast car, but fast and comfortable does not necessarily equal fun to drive, which is why.
The Fairlady Z is finally on track and scheduled for around February.
Also, please look forward to this article when the car is delivered!
