What options are a must have when purchasing a Panamera?

Differences in appearance between conventional and new models
The first Panamera came to our home in February 2016. It was a 970 Panamera Edition (late model) in "Carrara White" body color. it was a NA engine, and it was a really nice car, with a stretchy acceleration and a comfortable ride, even with the spring suspension, so my husband and I bothThe new Panamera will surely never be able to top it."I thought. It was such a great car.
Then, in October 2017, we parted with this Panamera Edition and the new Panamera Turbo came to our home.Unlike the Panamera Edition, turbo engine, air suspension. From the first touch of the accelerator pedal, it was completely different from the edition, and I felt such a big difference that it was "developed as a completely different car, rather than a further evolution of the Panamera.
Also, when compared in this way, it is clear that the design has been refined. The previous Panamera's design, especially the rear, was not well received, and the British car show TopGearThe drowned bodies of 911.It was a terrible review.(How much too much...lol)But I liked the previous Panamera's design, too, because of its warmth.
So, let me preface this by saying that I have been driving a Panamera for two years now, and I have been very impressed with the quality and performance of the Panamera. It's an option I thought I had to have."Today, I would like to write about the "what is the best way to enjoy driving". However, the viewpoints of "daily use" and "enjoyment of driving" are quite different. What I write today is a view from the perspective of "daily use".becomes.
What are the specifications of our new Panamera Turbo?
Incidentally, the current specifications of our new Panamera Turbo have been described in a previous blog post here. It accurately describes the options and even the price, but once again, I am keenly aware that it is an "expensive car". By the way, the article is here.
The following is a simple list of options and specifications, of which my husband said he would definitely add the followingRear Accelerator Steering, Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust System, Seat Ventilation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist.I guess around.
Exterior Color: Night Blue Metallic
Interior color: Black
Exterior: LED matrix headlights, privacy glass, soft-close doors
■Transmission/chassis: PDK, rear axle steering, sport chrono package, sport exhaust system
■Wheels: 21-inch 911 Turbo design wheels
■Wheel accessories: Porsche Crest wheel center caps
Interior: standard seats, seat ventilation, lane change assist, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, storage package, cup holder cover, smokers package
Carbon Interior: Carbon Interior Package
What options you should definitely put on!
I think that most of the options are "fine without, but even better with". In terms of "daily use," among the above options, the options that I feel are really good to have are the following options in the transmission/chassis category.Rear axle steeringIt is.
What is rear axle steering...
First of all, there is the rear axle steering system called rear axle steering. Speaking of Porsche's rear wheel steering system, many of you may remember the Weissach axle used in the Porsche 928. The Weissach axle was designed to stabilize cornering by turning the outer wheels toe-in during cornering, but the new rear axle system uses a toe control rod that is electrically extended and retracted to instantly turn the inner and outer wheels toe in or out. This allows the rear wheels to be steered in the opposite phase of the front wheels in tight corners at low speeds to improve responsiveness and make turns easier. At high speeds, when cornering or changing lanes, the rear wheels are steered in the same phase as the front wheels to improve stability.

I am not that knowledgeable about the contents of the car, so I only have a rough idea of how it works, but in the above explanationIn tight corners at low speeds, the rear wheels can be steered in opposite phase to the front wheels to increase responsiveness and make turning easier."That's exactly how I feel about the "I'm not sure I want to be a part of this" part.
Why is rear axle steering necessary?
Why do we need rear axle steering? The Panamera is huge, but Japanese parking lots and roads are narrow."From. The previous Panamera Edition did not have rear-axle steering, which made parking very difficult every time. In narrow parking lots, I often had to turn around many times before I could finally park.
Also, sometimes, when you have to make a U-turn or a hairpin curve, you can cut in from the outside, but you can still make a U-turn or a hairpin curve."Wow, I knew this wasn't enough!"and it often felt like I had to back up a bit and start over.
On the other hand, the new Panamera has rear axle steering, so there is no such concern. I was thrilled, "Will I be able to make this U-turn?" I turned the steering wheel as hard as I could with a sense of excitement.Even if it feels like a big turn at first, it turns incredibly sharply in the middle. The other day, when I looked in my rearview mirror, I saw a Prius following behind me that was having a hard time making the turn.
I can usually park in one shot, even though I am not a good driver. Even though I am not a very good driver.Sure Park Assist Function(Like a 360 degree monitor)would have been standard equipment on all Panameras. So, although it is partly due to this, the rear axle steering is still a major influence.
You can park like this.
So I took some pictures of how we stopped at a parking lot one day, and I would like to show you a few of them. This was the parking lot of umie in Kobe, I think.umie's parking lot is wider than most parking lots. However, rear axle steering is a must when there are cars parked on both sides of the road or when the road in front is narrow.
Normally, if you start to turn in at this angle, you will definitely have to turn around in the middle of the turn. If you are turning only with the front wheels, you will have to make a big turn even if you turn the steering wheel from this angle. However, in the case of rear axle steering, the rear wheels will also turn, so even if the steering wheel is turned at this angle...
...and I was moving it around a little bit and taking pictures, but I was so engrossed in taking pictures that I completely missed the cutoff...(EXCUSE)The white line and the rear tires were clearly out of alignment... But instead of turning around, I trusted the Panamera's rear axle steering and kept on going.
I swerved to the right, pulled over to the right, and then swerved again. I was able to get into the car in one shot without having to go back to the front and redo the parking.
The Panamera is so large that the white line of the parking lot is completely covered.... This time, I parked the Panamera in a space that was open on both sides, so it did not matter how I parked it, but usually the spaces in front and behind are occupied, and the space in front is often narrow. In such a case, it would be really hard to park this huge car, and if you hit it, it would be a big problem.Oh my gosh."The first is.
About other options
Among other options, "Adaptive Cruise Control" and "Lane Change Assist" I honestly don't use much.(Or maybe it's because I don't drive on the highway very often.)Also, if I were to drive a Panamera Turbo, I would want to drive it myself and savor its acceleration and the cleanliness of its handling.
Incidentally, my husband often drives on the highway and uses the adaptive cruise control function often, which I introduce in the article.

In the next issue, I would like to discuss the options from the viewpoint of "enjoying driving," but since I have never driven the car using the Sports Plus mode, etc. properly, I will write an article after driving around Ashiyu Driveway next time and verifying the results.
So I wrote an article afterwards. ↓↓↓↓

Thank you very much! What a waste of words!
I'll write another report about the LED matrix headlights when I get a chance to drive on the highway at night today!
Hi Mina.
I look forward to reading it.
I think rear wheel steering is an essential feature. The Lexus I used to drive had this feature, and unfortunately it was hard to see the effect (which is a problem in a sense that I know this well (^_^;)), but it makes small turns and "turning" more stable. I recently visited a Porsche dealer in the U.S. and was a little shocked to find out that I could get a quote for the same specs of the Panamera Turbo I want for about 10 million yen less (30 million vs. 20 million yen). I guess it is very difficult to change to Japanese specs.
Wow, prices are that different between Japan and the U.S.!
Surprise, surprise...
I hear that many Japanese cars are not equipped with this service, or that this service is not available in Japan....
