My thoughts on owning two GTS models, a Boxster (981) and a 911 (991.1)

Two lovable cars
I would like to keep every Porsche I own, but there are two that I would like to own.
It was created at about the same timeBoxster GTS (981 model) and 911 Carrera 4 GTS (991.1)It is.
Both are "GTS" grade, meaning Grand Touring Sport, and both have NA engines with six horizontally opposed cylinders before noise and environmental regulations were as stringent as they are now.
The 911 GTS is the last NA engine in the Carrera series at this time. The 3.8-liter naturally aspirated engine delivers 430 PS, or 113 hp per liter.
The popular options of the "three sacred treasures" such as the Sport Chrono Package, PASM, and Sport Exhaust are included from the start, and the grade combines a high level of driving performance, comfort, and sensuality.
Differences that can be seen when comparing GTS to each other
Recently, I had a chance to compare these two vehicles again, and I would like to venture a comparative discussion of my impressions.
After driving a 911 Carrera 4GTS, I would drive a Boxster GTS.
The first thing you feel is, 'What a nimble and fluttering Boxster!I'm impressed. Anyway, there is no cadence to the feel and movement of everything. All the movements are curvilinear, and they move in very beautiful arcs.
First of all, the ride is mild and comfortable, and the tires keep a firm grip on the road surface. When the steering wheel is turned, the vehicle smoothly changes direction with a moderate response that is not too quick, and the vehicle goes around curves in a beautiful midship-like trajectory, as if drawing a circle with a compass.
Great feeling, very fun to drive. Makes you want to take any number of curves.
And if you open the roof. The pleasant sound from the sports exhaust is enough to lift one's spirits even at low rpm.If you don't like the bubbling sound, just close the sport exhaust valve. This will produce a clear and grainy exhaust note.
I think this is due to the fact that the proportion of mechanical sound is less than that of the pre-987, and the exhaust sound is larger. So those who expect the old mechanical flat 6 sound may find it a bit lacking.
In terms of this sonic flair. The bubbling sound is much louder and flashier in the Boxster GTS.On the other hand. The bass is not very powerful, and this is better than the 911 GTS.
With a vehicle weight of only 1300 kg, even the 3.4-liter engine does not cause any teethiness at low speeds, allowing for comfortable acceleration and deceleration, and excellent drivability in town. And most importantly, even with the engine running at a certain level, the speed is not too high. The Boxster GTS can be enjoyed in any situation.
After driving the Boxster GTS, I drove the 911 Carrera 4GTS.
On the other hand, if you drive a 911 Carrera 4GTS, you'll get the feeling that, "How gutsy, how stable, how awesome! The first impression of the 911 is that it is a very stiff feeling compared to the Boxster. This is due in large part to the fact that the 911 is a four-wheel drive car, but even if we exclude this, the 911 still has a stiffer feeling than the Boxster.
However, it's like the differences between car models from other manufacturers.Intentional difference in setting rather than due to differences in vehicle size.It is better to say.
The ride is clearly firmer than that of the Boxster GTS, as it feels like it grabs the road by the eagle, but that doesn't hinder its everyday use at all. Perhaps it is because theThe level of the road surface conditions are such that there are some situations where you may not like it if you put your wife or girlfriend in the front passenger seat. And if you want to use it as a date car, the Boxster GTS is better.
Driving the 911GTS on a winding road, of course it feels completely different from the Boxster. The handling is more solid and the road conditions are easier to understand than in the Boxster. The way traction is applied, as if the load on the heavy rear end pushes the car out from behind, is unique to the 911, and can be fully felt even in the four-wheel-drive Carrera 4.
Compared to the Boxster, which turns like a circle on a compass. The 911 has a strong element of attraction, as it turns quickly inward around the rear and exits corners with strong traction. This is the fun of the 911, which can be made to turn even more comfortably with just one load application, making it impossible to stop honing one's driving skills.
As far as sound goes. The mix of the heavy bass of the intake and exhaust sounds echoing through the room is really powerful. My wife says. The sound of the 911GTS is a flat 6 multi-instrument orchestraThe sound of the GTS is said to be "very powerful". The sound of the GTS is powerful enough to be described as such.
In town, the 3.8-liter engine is indeed too roomy, and there are no occasions when the engine is revved as much as in the Boxster. However, the sound of the engine is enjoyable even at low rpms, so it is not a frustrating experience in town.
Commonality in terms of GTS
Although these two cars are the same GTS grade and were designed and produced at the same time, as mentioned above, there are significant differences.
However, there are many similarities. That is the concept behind the GTS grade.
S grade or higher, less than GT3/4. It is designed to be both fast, comfortable, and fun on the street, and has almost no racing car elements. This is where it differs greatly from the GT series grades.
So these two cars are really fun to drive in any situation. Although the GT series is stronger in terms of momentary enjoyment and excitement, the GTS is more comfortable and enjoyable throughout the entire journey, from leaving the garage, arriving at the destination, and returning home.
The name "Grand Touring Sport" is true to its name. These are two cars that should be chosen by driving enthusiasts rather than car enthusiasts.

I have a 991.1-4s Cabriolet PDK and a 991.1 MT
This is the 991.4S Cabri (blue top) that I had a chance to meet and talk with Hiro and everyone at Ashiari a few months ago on the way to touring.
It was a very good memory of our touring. Thank you very much.
I was happy and satisfied with the two aforementioned cars I owned with no complaints, but recently I've been struggling with a 991.1 GTS that came on the market!
After reading HIRO's blog, somewhere in my head I was thinking that GTS should not be ridden someday!
I'm thinking I'll have to let go of one of the two cars I own, since owning three in the first semester is not realistic.
The 991.1-4S Cabriolet is always a pleasure to drive, and as a convertible lover, I like to have a Cabriolet on hand!
That would make it a 991.1 MT if I had to let it go.
Should I give up my rare 991.1 MT to get a 991.1 GTS?
Do you regret giving up the 991.1MT and having a 991.1-4S and a 991.1-GTS, are the 991.1-4S and the GTS really that different?
I'm having a hard time with this.
I use it for touring and occasionally pull it out for a short ride around the neighborhood.
I would be very grateful for any advice from Mr. Hiro who has driven various Porsches!
I look forward to your continued blog updates!
Hello to the first semester man 991.
Well, on that note, thank you too! I remember you!
I personally think it would be a bit of a waste to give up the 991.1 MT for a GTS.
So I think it would be better to have it. I think so.
In the first place, I don't think the fun of a MT Carrera and the fun of a GTS can be substituted because they are different genres of fun.
By the way, 4S and GTS are quite different. Especially the sound is different in power and the torque of the engine after middle rpm seems to be different.
So, if you must have a GTS, why not consider a GTS Cabriolet when there is a good one out there?
Hi, I always enjoy reading your blog.
Both of these cars were released when I first became interested in cars, and I think they are cool and beautiful even today.
I saw the 981 Boxster GTS for the first time in a magazine called "2015-2016 All About Sports Cars," a one-volume collection of sports cars from various manufacturers.
The color was blue, the bumpers were different and stern and cool, and I remember seeing a critic's comment about the "pleasure of listening to the roar of a flat-six in the open" and feeling, "Is there such a car?
(I still have that magazine, though it's tattered, probably from reading it in the bath.)
Is there a car that fascinated you in your early days as a car enthusiast? If so, could you write an article about the episode?
Hello 168.
My love for cars started when I was just getting my driver's license, in a Honda Today, my mother's mini-car.
It was when I rode in my father's Honda Legend.
I thought all cars were the same, but I was surprised to see how different cars are depending on the type and rating of the car! I remember being surprised at how different cars are depending on the type and rating of the car.
I also saw BMW 8 series, Mercedes Benz CL, Fairlady Z, etc. in town.
It was very impressive and captivating.
I'll try to do another post on that one!
I started with a 991.1 Carrera 4S a few years ago and fell in love with Porsche's philosophy of craftsmanship (laugh). I want to drive a sports car in my daily life if possible, and I am especially happy with the Carrera 4S, which is comfortable and can be driven in any weather.
The growth potential of electric cars is not half as great, so faster and more efficient cars will surely continue to come out in the future, and expectations for electric cars, including the future 911, are high.
But at the same time, I am keenly aware that I will not be able to find a NA flat 6 in the future that is lovable, runs happily, and can manage to open up on public roads (above all, it has a good blast sound W). So I feel that I want 991 and 981 to stay for a long time, and I sympathize with you very much.
Hi kona!
I'm glad you agree with the article ^^.
There are really a lot of regulations these days, and it seems like car manufacturers are having a hard time.
Even with the same NA engine, the engine is much quieter and the gear ratios are designed with less consideration for fuel consumption.
In some cases, the general road is not interesting at all.
I think that 981 and 991 are just barely the last generation in that category that is not subject to such restrictions.
That is why I would like to keep these cars for a long time.
Always a pleasure to read your stuff!
Congratulations on learning blipping.
I am indulging in easy autoblipping myself.
I'm on a 981 Boxster GTS left hand drive MT that the salesman (now the manager) recommended to me because I didn't win the 981 Spyder lottery, which I was going to buy when I switched from my 987, and now I'm very happy with it!
When I drove the 987 on the circuit before, I was told that it was quiet like an eco-car even under straight acceleration, but when I drove the 981GTS on the circuit, the people watching in the gallery said that it had a pleasant and pleasant sound, and it sounded great while driving.
Now that the kids have flown the nest, we only take it out of the garage on sunny holidays and spa trips, but it is a great companion for a change of pace.
Especially in tunnels, they are actively open, wanting to be exposed to pleasant sounds.
I feel the 981 Boxster GTS is the kind of car that "rides on sound"!
Mr. HIRO.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to respond.
HIRO, you are right.
It's hard to find a used GTS Cabriolet that rings a bell.
I'm having a hard time finding a GTS I'm considering right now because it looks really good!
After driving the two Porsches I own for the past week, the 991.1 Porsche I have is still the best!
So I'm thinking of adding a GTS that looks to be in good condition and taking my time to think about it.
We have one car scheduled for delivery this month as a family car!
Then I don't know if I can buy two cars a month or have three 991.1s.
I have a small mind and my common sense is getting in the way.
I look forward to reading more of your blog!
I always enjoy reading your blogs!
I, as a reader, have finally made up my mind to buy a Porsche.
I am thinking of buying a 981 Cayman GTS and would like to discuss this with you.
If a 2.7l base grade with sport chrono, PSE and PASM, would the sound and ride be that different from the 981GTS model?
At first I was looking to buy a 981GTS, but then I found the option-rich base grade.
I have been wondering for days whether it would be good if I could get something similar to a GTS for about 4.5 million yen, even if it has 90,000 kilometers on the odometer, or whether I should still look for a GTS.
Would you be satisfied with the base grade if the options are available?
primary and auxiliary buildings (in traditional palatial-style architecture, esp. shrines and temples)
Thank you for visiting my blog!
And congratulations on your decision to go for the 981 Cayman GTS!
>If a 2.7l base grade with sport chrono, PSE and PASM, would the sound and ride be that different from the 981GTS model?
I asked my husband about it and he thinks the 2.7L engine is just fine and m crazy fun.
The sound, too, the 2.7L sounds a little higher and more extended and better than the 3.4L, though it definitely sounds better because of the PSE,
GTS is still different, with a loud bubbling sound, some GTS specifications, and a more powerful sound quality,
But the 2.7L also sounded more than good enough, he said.
He also said that he thinks the ride quality is more due to the difference in the size of the wheels rather than the base or GTS,
He said that 18- and 19-inch wheels would be more nimble, while 20-inch wheels would give the GTS a more robust, moist ride.
>Would you be satisfied with the base grade if the options were available?
It is very good with so much on the base! but the resale is still better with the GTS,
If the car has 90,000 km on it, it would be better to refresh the suspension before driving it!
Mina, Hiro
Thank you for your kind attention!
Thank you for your very clear explanation of the areas of concern!
I will not give up and will try to find some more GTS!
