History of Porsche Design and Chronograph 1
Porsche Design began as a design studio founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, aka "Butzi" Porsche, creator of the Porsche 911. Today, the company has evolved into a luxury goods subsidiary that sells a wide range of products in branded boutiques around the world, from luggage and sunglasses to coffee makers and clothing.
The Chronograph 1 is known as the world's first all-black wristwatch, introduced by Porsche Design in 1972. Initially, these watches were manufactured by a company called Orfina, but they moved to a partnership with IWC in 1978. The Eterna brand then took over manufacturing from 1998 to 2014, and Porsche Design is now the in-house watchmaker.
